Cat Cat attracts tourists not only by natural beauty. It’s a village of H’Mong people was established in 19th century. Until the beginning of 20th century, the French found out and chose it to be resting place for officers. In the heart of Cat Cat there is a beautiful waterfall named CatScat in French. Therefore, the village was named Cat Cat followed by French.
The displayed area is not prominent and extravaganza as elsewhere.It was erected by simple wooden sticks, bamboo…was pulled together to make an impression. Although the space is small but you can see the skillfull hands of the mountainous women through ethnic costumes hanging up along the entrance or handmade embroidery paintings hanging neatly inside the walls on the purlins between booth where preserved many unique cultures of the northwestern mountains.
In the handmade embroidery area, visitors will encounter the Hmong women diligently with their traditional handicrafts. Under indigo-stained hands, they turned the flax with many different colors into cloths and then dyed in a barrel of water and dye. Afer dyeing, they put the fabric on a flat rock covered by beeswax under round logs. They stand on horizontally placed planks on logs and rolled over, flex the planks to run over and over like circus until the fabrics are shiny.
Under their embroidery talent, the fabrics turn beautiful brocaded panels with colors, patterns simulated trees, leaves, flowers, animals…into bags, hats, pants, dresses, skirts….reflecting the breadth of mountains will follow you back to home as gifts for loved ones. Besides weaving, ethnic H’mong also has traditional silver carving with unique products such as necklace, bracelet, wire bar area, rings ... are being favored female travelers.
In addition to traditional craft, Hmong Cat Cat also develop rice farming, basketry of living, engrave silver and forge agricultural tools.
Walking along the village you will see the rice mortars running by hydro. They are very simple but express the human ‘s intelligence. Spanning through cable bridge to the romantic stream Si Cat is a place for cultural performances. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy folk dances H'mong, Dzao distinctived in sound of melodic flute of H’mong combined with the sound of waterfall and stream between clouds, vast mountain wind, liberal ... the young man, charming girl, very beautiful dance, cheerful enthusiasm, serving tourists.
